Over the years I have experimented with many ways to help people learn; lectures, reading, calculation exercises, small group exercises and discussions, business games and simulations, role plays, live theatre, and e-Learning. I have found that people generally learn best when they learn in a social environment, in active discussion and decision-making, and the atmosphere is fun, engaging, and relevant to the learning objectives.

So that is how I teach business. I use business games to teach the overview and the terminology to small teams competing against each other. I use structured exercises, preferably done in groups with discussion, to show the impact of individual variables on business results. I ask learners to bring the learning into their job, and do the same exercises that we have done in class on their own business, so that we can make sure they see how each concept works in the real world of their daily life.
